No story fails to hold one's interest, Arabian Nights is a very entertaining read for all ages.Arabian Nights By Kate Douglas Wiggin Illustrated Kate Douglas Wiggin 9781521144206 Books
An amazing version of the Arabian nights, with unforgettable images by Maxfield Parrish. Might be somewhat prejudiced by the fact my mother read to me from this version when I was 5 (and it was very old even then), but the stories and images are perfect, and transport you to another world. I have read it to children recently, and they have loved it too. Unforgettable. Exquisite.Product details

Arabian Nights By Kate Douglas Wiggin Illustrated Kate Douglas Wiggin 9781521144206 Books Reviews
I have to say I did not get all the way through this. I found the author's prose to be irritatingly stilted, particularly the dialogue. The stories however are magnificent, and I look forward to exploring them more in another edition.
This book has gorgeous illustrations and feels great in my hands... However the style of the writing is dense. It hardly holds my interest when there are so many other options. (I recommend the version by Andrew Lang, which also has lovely illustrations; and the stories are short and snappy.)
The low ratings are for the format, which is appalling quality. Instead of nice format, these are scanned images, and the font is way too small to be comfortable. The book itself is great for its genre, and I loved these tales as a kid.
I am a retired teacher who is tutoring. 7th grader was assigned the book. It Arrived on time. It is what I expected. Stories are easy to read. Good selection of stories and good size print.
The Arabian Nights collection includes stories about people who are portrayed as heroes and who do not exhibit the finer qualities of human nature. Many of the adventures are about people who cheated, robbed, and killed to get their way. While it is very imaginative, it is really a classic that would teach younger readers about the lack of morals, selfishness, and materialistic ways of some people. I did not enjoy reading about these things, but I can see how some people might. Some of the stories are poorly written with too much repetition for the 21st century reader. There must be something to these tales though for them to have lasted for centuries and centuries and to be retold again and again. I think it is just a matter of personal preference as to whether or not you enjoy these types of tales. I prefer stories to be about admirable protagonists, and not protangonists who seem like antagonists.
This free version has the text of the 1909 Kate Douglas Wiggin book, which has lots of enchanting tales, all told well. You can choose this all text free version or buy the enhanced version with amazing illustrations by Maxfield Parrish ( The Arabian Nights [Enhanced edition Annotated, Illustrated, with Active Table of Contents] ). I also have the print version and have enjoyed reading and rereading it over the years. The text is very, very good (4 stars alone, which is why I got this for my ), but the illustrations make it a solid 5 stars (so I am considering springing for the enhanced version).
I have been looking for this version for a few years now. I read it way back as a teenager and loved the paintings and style of the book. It reminds me of childhood tales and the "good old days". I am so glad to have found it on . The print was in good condition. I will read it to my kids now when they are a bit older to appreciate these tales.
An amazing version of the Arabian nights, with unforgettable images by Maxfield Parrish.
